Nye was in town to participate in McLennan Community College's Distinguished Lecture Series. He gave two lectures on such unfunny and adult topics as global warming, Mars exploration, and energy consumption.
But nothing got people as riled as when he brought up Genesis 1:16, which reads: "God made two great lights -- the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars."
The lesser light, he pointed out, is not a light at all, but only a reflector.
At this point, several people in the audience stormed out in fury. One woman yelled "We believe in God!" and left with three children, thus ensuring that people across America would read about the incident and conclude that Waco is as nutty as they'd always suspected.

The moon and Bill Nye are a threat to those who believe in God

I wonder whether any of the children saw the recent total lunar eclipse, and if so, how Mom explained it to them.
For anything inexplicable... God is testing you!
Oh, noes... I just thought of the possibility of a G&S parody, to be titled, "The Moon and Nye," but I'm in no state to write it at the moment. Yours for the taking, ellroon, if you feel like doing it...
Curse you, Steve! Homework AND an earworm!
*ahem*
Bill Nye and the Moon
Observe the blame,
Attempts to shame,
The moon and Bill Nye's lectures;
There's not a trace
Upon Bill's face
Of diffidence, conjectures:
He says the light
That, through the night,
The Moon shines down up on us
Is reflected from,
The blazing sun,
Religion cannot change thus.
Ah, pray make no mistake,
Bill Nye's the guy;
And science takes the cake
The moon and Nye!
SPLENDID, ellroon! I actually burst into song, aloud, at about "Ah, pray make no mistake..." and for what comfort it is, now I have the earworm, too!
Revenge!
Btw, this story is apparently more than a year old...
