Cats, the Moon and everything in between

Reddit asks:  What is something your current or past employer would NOT want the world to know about their company?  The responses about banking, food service, recycling, chemical waste, crony drunks on the job... makes one want to dig a hole and hide in it....

Hell cat.

Mars had water.  But does that mean it had life?  And how about a super computer on the MoOOooon!?

Stop it!

Being clueless and rich is hard!

Burns?  Or Romney?

Darrell Issa hits the big time...

Dealing with a troll.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch:
In Arizona, where anti-abortion crusaders have passed some of the most restrictive women’s health laws in the country, abortion rates seemed to have increased.
And by the way, good Christian women? Shut up.

High Fructose Corn Syrup must be called that, not the 'disguised' name of Corn Sugar.

Forget Mars! Forget the North Pole!

The moon is up for grabs! Let's take all our wars up there!:

Beijing, China (AHN) - China is looking forward to India's orbiter launch in April, just as it blasted into space on Wednesday night a lunar probe that will spend a year exploring and mapping the moon.

The launch paves the way for a Chinese astronaut landing on the moon in about 10 years.

Japan is not far behind, when it sent a moon orbiter into space in September. India will send its version next April just ahead of the United States that will launch a moon probe next year.

"Japan began its lunar exploration research much earlier than we did," said China's top mission official Zhang Jianqihe, pointing it out it's not a matter of who made it first.

Japan's lunar probe launch a month ago was "very well done," said Professor Ouyang Ziyuan, the chief scientist behind China's lunar probe, adding he was looking forward to India's orbiter launch.

The launch came four years after China became only the third country - after the US and Russia - to launch a man into space. Over the next two decades, Beijing aims to land an unmanned lunar rover on the moon, retrieve lunar samples, and eventually put a Chinese astronaut on the moon.

China doesn't participate in the International Space Station because the US is uneasy of having a crew from an authoritarian state onboard.
Authoritarian state? Didn't we let a Saudi go up a while back? So why are we allowed on the International Space Station then?

A Japanese satellite circles the moon

CNN article

Tokyo, Japan (AHN) - The Japanese satellite launched last month finally reached orbit around the moon on Friday. The probe is eventually set to move into orbit closer to the moon's surface before starting an observational mission that should last a year.

The $279 million Selenological and Engineering Explorer or SELENE involves launching the main satellite in a circular orbit at an altitude of about 60 miles, as well as the two smaller satellites in elliptical orbits. The data collected will be used the study the moon's origin and evolution.

Could it be also to get up there before China does?:

The SELENE satellite mission -- four years behind JAXA's original schedule -- comes as China is planning to launch its own lunar probe. That country's minister of defense and technology told China Central Television in July all was ready for a launch "by the end of the year," AP reported.

China's Chang'e 1 orbiter will use stereo cameras and X-ray spectrometers to map three-dimensional images of the lunar surface and study its dust, AP reported.

The moon and Bill Nye are a threat to those who believe in God

And not in much else:

Nye was in town to participate in McLennan Community College's Distinguished Lecture Series. He gave two lectures on such unfunny and adult topics as global warming, Mars exploration, and energy consumption.

But nothing got people as riled as when he brought up Genesis 1:16, which reads: "God made two great lights -- the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars."

The lesser light, he pointed out, is not a light at all, but only a reflector.

At this point, several people in the audience stormed out in fury. One woman yelled "We believe in God!" and left with three children, thus ensuring that people across America would read about the incident and conclude that Waco is as nutty as they'd always suspected.

Forget Afghanistan and Iraq!

It's the moon we're after!
"NASA's planned moon base announced last week could pave the way for deeper space exploration to Mars, but one of the biggest beneficiaries may be the terrestrial energy industry.

Nestled among the agency's 200-point mission goals is a proposal to mine the moon for fuel used in fusion reactors -- futuristic power plants that have been demonstrated in proof-of-concept but are likely decades away from commercial deployment.

Helium-3 is considered a safe, environmentally friendly fuel candidate for these generators, and while it is scarce on Earth it is plentiful on the moon.

As a result, scientists have begun to consider the practicality of mining lunar Helium-3 as a replacement for fossil fuels."

[snip]

"NASA plans to have a permanent moon base by 2024, but America is not the only nation with plans for a moon base. China, India, the European Space Agency, and at least one Russian corporation, Energia, have visions of building manned lunar bases post-2020.

Mining the moon for helium-3 has been discussed widely in space circles and international space conferences. Both China and Russia have stated their nations' interest in helium-3."
