It's not kosher

To assume that the Chinese know what kosher is or that the kosher mark makes the food product safer:
Kosher certification is the new darling of health-conscious consumers who misguidedly believe that biblically blessed health standards can reign in the excesses of commercial food production. Even Chinese exporters are betting that kosher certification can convince foreign consumers that their wares are safe. To companies, certification is just a marketing tool: it lends the aura of safety without offering any actual food safety benefits.
We will start thinking Chinese food products are safe when Chinese food producers stop putting toxic lead, pollutants, inedible items or poisonous chemicals in our food. It really is that simple.

my mother used to go to the kosher butcher and buy meat because she thought it was "safer" and "better" tasting --- then she would make us cheeseburgers.

my grandmother, who was kosher, used to bring chinese food into the house and eat on paper plates - because she loved moo shoo pork. she even bought kosher dog and cat food for her pets. dont ask.

so there you have it -- my kosher and chinese stories

now back to my ham sandwich.

Lol! Blessings upon your mom and grandmother. They sound delightful.

Mayo and mustard on your ham sandwich, or do you use relish?

A real kosher certification is a good indicator that the product is free of a lot of bad things, but only bad things related to the dietary laws.

If something is really kosher, it is almost always human compatible and non-toxic, but I would trust the authenticity of a kosher certification on a Chinese product as much as I would trust their brand labeling, which is to say not at all.
