Isn't it supposed to be on an island?

Chester of Vanity Press catches this horror:

"For those of you who accuse CBS of being too conservative, you will feel differently when you see the shows we have lined up," said Leslie Moonves, chairman of CBS Corp.

A new reality show, "Kid Nation," will take 40 children and set them up in an abandoned New Mexico town. Cameras will follow them as they try to set up their own society without adult supervision.

Any parent who thinks this would be an exciting experience for their child needs to be supervised. GOOD GRIEF! Enough of the moronic reality shows!

Aaarrggh! sorghum crow beat me to it!

I have never watched more than five minutes of any "reality" show. There's plenty of real reality, without introducing faux reality.

But... what happens if one or more of the children embark on some really dangerous activity? Do the camera crews just keep rolling, or does someone try to stop the kids from harming themselves and each other? Things that make for great video when adults are involved may well be highly irresponsible, even downright negligent, when the show deals with kids. This is a terrible idea!

Even if it is not physical danger, the psychological damage would be tremendous. What parent would let their child experience such a thing?

Isn't this show just an awful idea? On, like, every possible level?

Absolutely. Nice catch, Chester!

It could well be illegal. It would be in New York, but the wording of the New Mexico child welfare laws may be loose enough to allow it.

Then there's the issue of child labor laws, state and federal, as well as the liability insurance requirements, the public health laws, etc. There's a reason they don't film "reality shows" in the US, because even with adults you have problems.

This thing would have to be at least as regulated as a summer camp.

If they do this, it will start with anarchy, pass through gang war, and wend its way to fascism.

Come on, we all went to high school. Kids, what can you do?

The more I read, Bryan, the more this sounds absolutely bizarre. A kid survivor show? With the awful trauma of being a kid in front of the whole world?

Have they thought this thing out?
