Blog sprinkles

This is a delicious waste of time.

And this is crap:

A California dairy has converted a pair of 18-wheelers to run on biomethane produced from cow manure, creating what is believed to be the nation's first cow-pie–powered trucks.

Hilarides Dairy will use manure produced by 10,000 cows to generate 226,000 cubic feet of biomethane daily — enough to reduce the Central Valley farm's diesel fuel consumption by 650 gallons a day.

"For us it made sense to invest in this technology. Now we can utilize the dairy's potential to power our trucks in addition to generating electricity for our operations," Rob Hilarides (pictured above), owner of the dairy, said. "This will significantly reduce our energy costs and give us some protection from volatile energy prices."

Not to mention something to do with all that manure.

Here is the best hug of the day.

And the worst funny joke....

I want to try this bread.

How soon they forget they tried to jam 'Love Our Dear Leader Or Die' down our throats these last horrible eight years. They can't comprehend how happy we are that Obama is president. The joy we feel is authentic. They think if they can just somehow stick the term fascism onto Obama somewhere.....

No wonder the Republicans hate FDR. Because all they can offer are tax cuts.

Plants you should consider growing in your vegetable garden.

Thanks for the linky link. I really need to post something new to get that image off the front page.

And the bread recipe is great, it's more or less my standard. Also makes a great pizza crust.

And likewise, thanks for the link, ellroon. Unlike Sorghum Crow, I'm inclined to keep my photo on the front page as long as possible... you can almost hear the purrs over the 'net!

Ooo, good to know, SC. I don't make bread very often, but I need to learn.

Love that photo, Steve. Was linking to it over at Eschaton. What a fur face!

thanks, eh?

That bread recipe sounds good except why use instant yeast if you're going to be so patient anyhow? It only took a few days last time I wanted to create a starter from scratch. A few raisins may be mixed in with some flour and water, disposing and replacing half of the mixture each day until bubbles appear.

You've mentioned different types of bread, Mahakal. I've made only the white kind of bread that kind of sits there...

At least I know I've got you to turn to when I have bread questions.

You can make any kind of bread with a starter, just choose the kind of flour you're going to use for your bread to feed to the yeast culture you're growing. I used a lot of different grains but you certainly stick to white bread flour.

The point of this, from my perspective, is that bread making is the foundation of civilization.

I meant to say, "you can certainly stick to white bread flour."

Be careful with rye flour, though.

We learned in my art history that rye was probably responsible for the utterly weird medieval paintings of hell and such. I'll avoid it, thanks.
