Yet....WASHINGTON - Republican presidential hopeful Fred Thompson on Friday defended his wife's role in his campaign, saying she has only been doing what he had asked her to do.
"If some people who got their feelings hurt anonymously now want to go after her instead of me because they might feel like she's an easier target, there's nothing I can do about that," Thompson said.
"But I don't have any further need for explanation for anything that she's done. Thank goodness she's there," the former Tennessee senator said in an interview on ABC's "Good Morning America."
Today, Jeri Thompson, 40, has emerged as a driving and at times divisive force within the presidential campaign her husband is preparing to launch, one that could make her the nation's youngest first lady since Jacqueline Kennedy.Sounds like she's kinda ambitious....In the nascent Thompson campaign -- anticipated with high hopes by many conservatives unsatisfied with the current crop of GOP candidates -- Jeri Thompson plays a role arguably as influential as those of two better-known spouses of Democratic candidates, Bill Clinton and Elizabeth Edwards. She helps shape her husband's conservative message and image, has been a strong voice urging him to run and recently helped instigate a shake-up that pushed aside Thompson's first campaign manager and his research director.

You sent me to Wikipedia to find out whether Jeri Thompson and Jeri Ryan ("Seven of Nine") are the same person. They aren't. But the hair, the face and the etc. bear a remarkable resemblance.
God... how soon I have forgotten the travails of Jack 'Sex in Public' Ryan...
The confusion is understandable. One obese, aging, obnoxious Republican male politician and his very decorative, much younger spouse are much like another. I just hope Fred doesn't engage in behavior similar to Jack's.
(FTR, I myself am not cradle-robbing, oh, no: Stella is almost my age, no matter how young and decorative she may look! ;-) )
