Accountability. When those who are elected get to answer to those who elected them. Repeat after me: investigations, cover-ups, denials, exposure, confessions, jail time, shame.
We're planning to hold you guys accountable, too. Via Marshall, the Guardian:
We've seen what absolute power does to those who are corruptible, thanks to Bush. Maybe we should just make a fourth branch of government, the special prosecutor's office?House Democrats are suddenly balking at the tough lobbying reforms they touted to voters last fall as a reason for putting them in charge of Congress.
Now that they are running things, many Democrats want to keep the big campaign donations and lavish parties that lobbyists put together for them. They're also having second thoughts about having to wait an extra year before they can become high-paid lobbyists themselves should they retire or be defeated at the polls.
The growing resistance to several proposed reforms now threatens passage of a bill that once seemed on track to fulfill Democrats' campaign promise of cleaner fundraising and lobbying practices.

Well, the free press is supposed to be the fourth branch. An independent prosecutor has a tendency to become a co-executive, as all power tends to draw more power to itself as a magnet pulls like magnets.
Patrick Fitzgerald is a true hero, for he did his job and set down his office, resuming his ordinary duties as a US Attorney.
But for an opposite example, consider Ken Starr who expanded his remit continually through his efforts to obtain an impeachment, rather than letting the investigative bodies of the congress carry forward with the inquiries appropriate to such an end.
Did Ken Starr even indict anyone?
Ken Starr? Indictments? His own bloated ego in front of the entire nation, maybe.....
Technically the offices they held were different. Patrick Fitzgerald was a special counsel, he was limited in jurisdiction. Ken Starr was an independent counsel, he was a co-President for some intents and purposes.
Don't forget the most important part, Ken Starr looked like Karl Rove after a binge drinking weekend, and Patrick Fitzgerald is a cutie.
My wife informs me that I am cutest and best, however. She is biased, and I disagree. I tell her that she is.
Anyone who fights for the truth is beautiful, even Henry Waxman!
