So... What do they know that we don't know?

What is planned for the future that Bush and Cheney make this a priority?
With scarcely a mention in the mainstream media, President Bush has ordered up a plan for responding to a catastrophic attack.

In a new National Security Presidential Directive, Bush lays out his plans for dealing with a “catastrophic emergency.”

Under that plan, he entrusts himself with leading the entire federal government, not just the Executive Branch. And he gives himself the responsibility “for ensuring constitutional government.”

He laid this all out in a document entitled “National Security Presidential Directive/NSPD 51” and “Homeland Security Presidential Directive/HSPD-20.”
leo fender at Daily Kos:
In other words, if situation were to occur that were to meet the definition of a "catastrophic emergency" that allowed the continuity plan to be invoked, the White House would be in charge. For the record, the new order, NATIONAL SECURITY PRESIDENTIAL DIRECTIVE/NSPD 51 and HOMELAND SECURITY PRESIDENTIAL DIRECTIVE/HSPD-20, defines "Catastrophic Emergency" as "any incident, regardless of location, that results in extraordinary levels of mass casualties, damage, or disruption severely affecting the U.S. population, infrastructure, environment, economy, or government functions"
The National Security Presidential Directive.

Right. The LAST PERSON on this planet who should be in charge during a catastrophic attack is Georgie Bush (or Darth Cheney for that matter). If you remember, during 9/11 he froze on a elementary school-sized chair then he ran away; during Katrina he flew high over the trauma before he dared get close enough to put comfort on those poor people; during Iraq he pretended everything was hunky-dory until the blood splatter got too much, then he appointed a war czar.

We want this doofus or his incompetent crony cabal in charge during a catastrophic attack?

Give me a fucking break.

The catastrophic emergency is irrelevant. The point of this order is to give Bush the opportunity at some unspecified future time to proclaim himself dictator. If he attempts to so, a lot of us will be willing to suffer a great deal if necessary to assure that the attempt fails.

Immediate impeachment is a first and very necessary step. But any grab Bush (or anyone else) makes for absolute power must be made to fail... no matter what. Three branches of government, not one man, must determine what is constitutional and what is not... no matter how catastrophic the emergency.

It's nice to have their intentions in print, but it makes me wonder if they have another historical document refering to an upcoming attack....

And are the Democrats really so afraid of impeachment? How many crimes does Bush have to do before it happens?

My plan is to make the other poor bastards suffer a great deal to ensure the attempt fails.

I think we've all been suffering in so many ways since Bush and Cheney took (in every sense of the word) office.

Who knows if we ever can find our way back home to the America we once knew... less than a decade ago.
