Every region of the U.S. has its own kind of natural disaster to which a response must be mounted. Ever since Katrina, we Gulf Coast residents have been terrified of the next nonresponse... until now. FEMA worked pretty much properly under Bill Clinton, and somehow I have confidence it will work right again under Obama. That confidence is worth more than anyone realizes... well, anyone except for those of us who face massive floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis, snowstorms, wildfires, etc.; that, of course, is just about all of us. I don't expect the storms to be milder. But I do expect the responses to be more effective.

Shouldn't he be playing guitar, or eating birthday cake? I thought that's what presidents do in the event of natural disasters.
Or peer out of an Air Force One window 10,000 feet above the flooding?
We're in a whole new territory with this new president. A politician who actually knows what to do...

Bush administration:Who could have foreseen___________(insert event here).
I think it's clear Obama knows natural disasters are common and expected and that communities will rise up to help if encouraged the right way.
