Torture works

Because the Nazis did it and it worked so we can use it! This jaw-dropping statement was made by Alan Dershowitz.

D of Lawyers, Guns and Money
:

In the midst of defending once again the single worst argument in the pro-torture arsenal, Alan Dershowitz has finally been reduced to a sad parody of himself by claiming that torture -- if good enough for the Nazis -- is good enough for us.

There are some who claim that torture is a nonissue because it never works--it only produces false information. This is simply not true, as evidenced by the many decent members of the French Resistance who, under Nazi torture, disclosed the locations of their closest friends and relatives.
The obvious conclusion is left unsaid....That the Nazis were the BAD GUYS, they efficiently tortured and killed millions of people and still lost a world war, and a few of them were charged with war crimes and HUNG.

Hmm...

Maybe just asking for impeachment isn't enough....

Dershowitz is an enabler, but so is the Democratic party. I'm disgusted.

The scenario is this is Nazi America, and there's no one coming to our rescue. We have to save ourselves.

I would like some proof of that statement regarding the French Resistance. If you can find one member of the Resistance you simply arrest everyone they know and assume they are members of the Resistance.

The Germans had a very good intelligence network that had nothing to do with the Gestapo, and which was effective in breaking up Resistance cells. The Gestapo got involved after the cell was arrested, and the torture was sadism, not part of the interrogation.

Dershowitz should try reading a little history, both of World War II, and of the United States.

Amazing how the loyal Bushies have gotten themselves into logical contortions to explain the inexplicable, isn't it, whig? You're right, too. We have no one coming to our rescue.

Bryan, thanks for that point about the French resistance. I read many books about the resistance when I was young, but lately found out a lot of it was propaganda by De Gaulle. He inflated the French involvement in the resistance to make themselves feel better about their capitulation.

I have no idea about successfulness of the Nazi's torture techniques but when we start taking pointers we know we've entered the dark side.

For the record, we rejected use of a lot of Nazi research, like medical experiments. Dershowitz is a shanda for defending torture.

And the evidence is clearly that torture leads to confabulation, and not actual information. When you are tortured, you will say whatever the people torturing you want you to say, regardless of its veracity.

I remember the ethical struggles of deciding whether it would honor or debase the memory of those who died by using the information. They decided they couldn't.

I bet the doctors involved this time will have all the data saved.....
