Islamabad, Pakistan (AHN) - Pakistan's Army spokesman Major General Waheed Arshad confirmed that at least 22 people were killed and 21 others injured in a battle on Sunday between rebel forces and government troops in the region's tribal area.

Arshad said the fighting occurred in North Waziristan where the government security forces killed at least 20 militants and injured 15 others in a fierce firefight. Two soldiers and six others suffered injuries in the clash.

The militants initiated an attack against the government security forces in a major town in North Waziristan of Mir Ali, forcing troopers to fight back. The security forces used helicopters against militants in the operation, Arshad said.
