Life in the background

Now that the first debate is over....

The sunken ancient Greek ship that had a 'computer' gets a revisit... they're going back to see what other wonderful things can be found.  (I love this kind of archaeology.)

Your hate and fear of the 'other' is used to manipulate you.

Bubbles...

What could possibly go wrong? To quote Goldblum's character in Jurassic Park,"...scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn't stop to think if they should."
Pesticide use rises as genetically modified crops backfire
Look, Romney! A poor person using the ER... and being told they could not help her.  Obamacare saved her.

Marijuana helps cure cancer? It will be made only if the big Pharmaceutical corporations can control it:

72%?

So what's the problem?

New York, NY (AHN) - A new poll found the majority of Americans support health care reform, including a controversial measure calling for the establishment of a government-run non-profit health insurance plan that would compete with private for-profit plans.

According to a press release on results of the New York Times/CBS News poll released Saturday, 72 percent of Americans support a government insurance plan - including 50 percent of Republicans.

The poll also revealed that many Americans "think the government would do a better job than the private sector providing coverage and controlling costs."

However, the poll also found that there were concerns over the cost of creating such a plan. And while many Americans were willing to pay more in taxes to create a universal health insurance plan pollsters found support declined when specific dollar amounts were mentioned.

Wars, global warming, health care crisis and economic collapse

And all the GOP can offer is pizza.... and the same old pig with a new shade of lipstick.

It's not a marketing problem, you guys. It's that we've seen the Republican agenda up close and personal for the last eight years and have been shown it. does. not. work. The wreckage in which we are sitting right now is because of Republicans.

You can't dress up a disaster and get people to buy it.

Update: Lincoln Mitchell of the Huffington Pos on rebranding:
The problems the Republican Party faces, however, will not be solved by rebranding. The Republicans don't have problems of slogan or presentation. Their problems go much deeper than that. In these days of increased concern about swine flu, porcine allusions may require even more sensitivity than ever, but simply rebranding the Republican Party by somehow updating its image, with apologies to Sarah Palin, really is putting lipstick on a pig.

Stand with Dr. Dean

Sign the petition

Give America a choice. We support healthcare reform that allows individual Americans to choose either a universally available public healthcare option like Medicare or for-profit private insurance. A public option is the only way to guarantee healthcare for all Americans and its inclusion is non- negotiable.

Any legislation without the choice of a public option is only insurance reform and not the healthcare reform America needs.

Can Hillary deliver?

Blue Gal meets up with Former President Clinton to discuss Dennis Kucinich's single-payer, not-for-profit health care plan which would provide every man, woman, and child with comprehensive coverage from whatever doctors they choose. This would be achieved through a tax on employers that is lower than what employers who now provide coverage pay on average. Unlike other Democratic presidential candidates, Kucinich doesn't simply say, "Forget about it" when it comes to basic human rights. He has the courage to entirely eliminate private insurance companies from the equation.
