I think the interesting thing about this speech is that the major complaint I hear about it is that "it solves nothing" -- even though he pretty well points out that this kind of stuff isn't fixed by a candidate, a president, or even a speech. Its a big issue and the service the speech really does (besides making Obama looking like a leader and presidential) is to put the issue of race in context and to personalize it for everyone -- well anyone with a shred of introspection.
I for one, had (have) plenty of racist relatives. I disagree with them, but I don't hate them.
Besides being floored by someone who can speak in complex sentences with multisyllabic words, he has shown he can cut through the Right Wing Smear Machine's poisonous fog just like Ross Perot did to Bush senior.
Of COURSE this speech won't 'solve anything' but my god he can point out the places that need fixing without making people angry or defensive. THAT took a great speech writer and a great orator.
It was good. And if it was Pastor Wright who saved Obama from the streets and set him on such a course, more power to the man. I have to confess I found nothing offensive in what Wright was saying in his 'incendiary' speeches. He was telling the truth. Hagee, Dobson, Robertson, and Falwell all talk about how we've failed and must go back. Wright was saying we've failed and must try harder.

Abraham Hussein Lincoln couldn't have given a better speech.
It works better if I use the correct link.

I like the second choice.
And Senator Obama? Thank you.

that's possibly the most accurate, most succinct interpretation of wright's rhetoric that i've seen anywhere. kudos to you.
i like the second choice too.
Thanks, hipparchia, but Atrios (Eschaton) thought of it first. I just shamelessly hijacked it.
