Speaking of late and great, the late great Molly Ivins always discounted conspiracy theories, saying that coincidence and incompetency were enough to explain almost everything commonly attributed to conspiracies.
I have not heard of Nim Chimpsky (made me laugh, thanks), but I did read the book Next of Kin by Roger Fouts bout the sign language using chimpanzee Washoe.
People on the Eschaton thread just today were talking about the delightful Molly Ivins and saying she could swear with such grace and not be mean about it.
What would she have to say about the mess right now, I wonder?
