From here to there...

The Republican War on Women continues... apparently this last election didn't mean anything.

Fix the debt?  Uh huh.

Do politicians really worry about the deficit?....

HuffPost is exasperating if it's precision you're looking for. They took the Curiosity team's statement that Curiosity had found "water and sulfur and chlorine-containing substances" in Martian soil, and made a flying, wild leap to the conclusion that Curiosity had found "organics."

Sorry, but no. If by "organics" you mean chemicals that may have originated from life or been left over from long-dead life, surely you want to look for classic "CHON" (carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen) combinations. The NASA press release explicitly DISclaims a finding of organics: ""We have no definitive detection of Martian organics at this point, but we will keep looking in the diverse environments of Gale Crater," said SAM Principal Investigator Paul Mahaffy of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md."

There's a reason I yanked HuffPost from my blogroll: too much tabloid enthusiasm, not enough journalistic caution.

Yeah, Huffington Post is now just a gossip rag in many ways, but I still will stop and scan the front page if I stumble across it.

I still think they've found something amazing and won't tell us. (I'm trying to start a Mars conspiracy thread....)
