I knew in voting for him he'd be a centrist, that he would disappoint as well as encourage us. I just hope he won't sink into the DC miasma and forget why we sent him there in the first place.
He's working on it. As to Afghanistan, here's Steve Benen: One can certainly make the argument that Obama was talking about a smaller escalation of the U.S. commitment, along the lines of "at least two" additional U.S. combat brigades, and tonight he'll articulate the case for a larger deployment.
But at no point did Obama ever raise the possibility that he might withdraw U.S. forces altogether. On the contrary, he repeatedly told voters that he intended to slowly remove troops from Iraq and increase the number of troops in Afghanistan.
Reasonable people can be disappointed or pleased with the decision, but Obama isn't breaking any campaign promises here. His intentions and broader strategy have remained pretty consistent for at least two years here. Obama is doing what he said he'd do.
I didn't ask about Afghanistan. I know what he said in the campaign, and I still want to know when Guantanamo is being closed, whether we're going to have health care reform with a meaningful public option, or anything else he promised. If the best he can do is keep his promise to escalate Afghanistan, then that isn't why I supported him.

Weak tea, I'm afraid. Especially if he's about to increase the Afghanistan deployment, this is going to hurt his support.
If health reform doesn't pass with a public option, and winds up being a handout to the insurance companies, I think he's in trouble.
He needs to take bold steps soon. Shake up his administration, and stop selling his own agenda short.
