BERKELEY, Calif., March 14 The Berkeley, Calif., City Council has voted unanimously to push Germany toward a war crimes indictment against former U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

The council declined, however, to join a lawsuit intended to force an indictment, MediaNews reported.

The city does not have the resources to investigate and evaluate whether such a criminal complaint would be justified, he said, or whether the city would suffer any fiscal or other legal consequences from joining such a complaint charging United States officials with crimes in a foreign country.Human rights organizations in 24 countries, as well as three Nobel Peace Prize winners, have joined the suit as co-plaintiffs, MediaNews said.
