Committee chairs for Democrats

The Guardian looks at the Senate's new leaders:
Majority Leader: Harry Reid, D-Nev.

Assistant Majority Leader: Dick Durbin, D-Ill.

Agriculture: Tom Harkin, D-Iowa.

Appropriations: Robert Byrd, D-W.Va.

Armed Services: Carl Levin, D-Mich.

Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs: Christopher Dodd, D-Conn.

Budget: Kent Conrad, D-N.D.

Commerce, Science, and Transportation: Daniel Inouye, D-Hawaii.

Energy and Natural Resources: Jeff Bingaman, D-N.M.

Environment and Public Works: Barbara Boxer, D-Calif.

Finance: Max Baucus, D-Mont.

Foreign Relations: Joseph Biden, D-Del.

Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions: Edward Kennedy, D-Mass.

Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs: Joseph Lieberman, I-Conn.

Indian Affairs: Byron Dorgan, D-N.D.

Judiciary: Patrick Leahy, D-Vt.

Rules and Administration: Connecticut's Dodd is most senior, but he would most likely sacrifice this chairmanship to take the Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs gavel. California Sen. Dianne Feinstein, 73, a tough-talking, consensus-forging moderate, could become chairwoman.

Special Committee on Aging: Herb Kohl, D-Wis.

Select Committee on Ethics: Tim Johnson, D-S.D.

Select Committee on Intelligence: Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va.

Small Business and Entrepreneurship: John Kerry, D-Mass.

Veterans Affairs: Daniel Akaka, D-Hawaii.
