I have seen the Museum of Natural History's exhibit of the Burgess Shale... and concluded that the appropriate music to accompany it is the Twilight Zone theme. Weird shit!

The assistant on duty the first day I saw it was rather surprised when I asked about it. "Burgess Shale? we don't get many requests for that!" But everyone with an interest in paleontology should see it; I can't think of anything else in the world that has brought home to me so forcefully the actual shape of the early tree of life: broad, bushy and ruthlessly pruned. It's really true: they don't make 'em like that anymore!

I have a rock infused with trilobite fossils which I found on one of my many geology trips. Love geology, love paleontology, but have forgotten most of the terms.

Burgess shale is one I remember!

I've seen the same at the Museum. Cool stuff.
