Our dear departed Molly, in a column perhaps a decade ago, described her astonishment the first time she realized that fact: that Republ(ic)ans are in no meaningful sense either conservative or strong on defense. Republans are spendthrifts and cowards, period. True conservatives I have known... their number has diminished considerably... are neither.
I don't know if Obama's ordered assassination of bin Laden will be effective, or if it was even necessary at this late date in protecting the US against terrorism. But the Republan whining at his having done so just shows me how desperate they are...
... oh, and how racist they are. Did I mention how racist the Republans are? How many times can they wink-wink-nudge-nudge, point at Obama and effectively say, "have you noticed this man is Black?" For years, racism was neither pervasive in the GOP nor necessarily their worst characteristic; now racism is at the very center of who they are and what they do, right up there with their intent to control women. Nixon's Southern Strategy has devolved to the GOP's No Other Strategy. Damn them anyway!

Blogger ate my profound and thoughtful response. But I agree, true conservatives are in hiding, hoping that the present day Republican clown car will drive off the cliff and take all the idiots with it.
