Damn! There goes rice!

It's looking more and more like earthworms and pill bugs for dinner...

ABERDEEN, Scotland, March 14 Scottish scientists have discovered elevated levels of arsenic in rice produced in the south central part of the United States.

In the largest market basket survey of the arsenic content of U.S.-grown rice, the University of Aberdeen's A. A. Meharg and colleagues analyzed rice purchased at various U. S. supermarkets. A previous study found U. S. rice purchased in the United Kingdom had higher arsenic levels than rice grown in Europe, India or Bangladesh.

As much as I try to buy locally when possible... and Texas has plenty of rice farmers... I have to admit that Indian basmati tastes mighty good, especially after reading your post.

Yup, love the stuff. White and brown basmati rice from Trader Joe's.

I am fortunate that Houston has a large Indian/Pakistani community, so the Indian brands are available in small bags in some large groceries (and in humongous bags in all the small Indian groceries along Hillcroft). I still regret that I can't eat the local Texas product, which apart from the probable arsenic is a respectable basmati-like rice.

Can you handle the dal dishes? I cannot get beyond the heat some of the dishes have.
