To the Supreme Court apparently yes.
Imagine the hysteria if Hobby Lobby were run by religious Muslims....

It doesn't matter how many thousands of lives are lost (between 2001 and 2010, about 270,000 U.S. residents died in shootings, including homicide, suicide and accidents). And it doesn't seem to matter how many mass killings there are, like the one Friday at the elementary school in Connecticut.Doonesbury agrees.

While the debate rages on...
Quick! Which way did they go?
Ad your voice to help reelect Obama. And speaking of ads, this is fun.
Psychopaths: business men and politicians
The physics of medieval viking sword fighting.
They are coming for your birth control... because hussies should get knocked up and then shamed, shunned and finally stoned in the town square. Because God is love.

Standing up for logic and reason
Missouri tries to pass a 'Right to Pray' act that sneaks in a part about kids being able to refuse to be taught about evolution and science. Death threats to the woman reporter who wrote the expose.

No birth control pills for you!
I just don't like your face!
And something that Hecate said in the Eschaton threads a few days ago:
And anti-choicers ponder a different method to negate women's rights: from ban to reduction
And something that Hecate said in the Eschaton threads a few days ago:
Criminalizing abortion doesn't prevent abortion. Women have abortions even when they're (as they used to be) illegal. They have them in alleys at the hands of hacks, but they have them. There are things that have been empirically shown to reduce the incidence of abortion. Those things also tend to empower women and encourage the use of birth control: things that are anethma to the fundies. So year after year they support a step that won't prevent abortions (criminalization) and won't support things that would prevent abortions (education for girls, real sex ed, affordable, safe, and effective birth control, equal pay for women, medical care for women and children and free, safe, and educational day care.Hecate is right. It's not the fetus, it's the sex. It's about putting uppity women back in their place. It's about punishment for being sexual. We get to explain this again and again.
When people spend years saying they have one goal but act to achieve something that won't result in their stated goal and ignore steps that would result in their stated goal, it's pretty clear that they really have another agenda that they're just not willing to admit in public for fear most Americans would reject it.

Why is Bush so afraid of being seen with these guys?
Tomorrow belongs to the fanatic, Bush and their religious leaders have said so. So why is Bush so afraid of embracing them face to face, maybe with a photo op?
President Bush delivered remarks by telephone today to a Washington rally of opponents of abortion rights. “Bush calls the rally each year, usually from distant locations. This year, he extended his weekend stay at the Camp David presidential retreat in the Maryland mountains to phone the participants from there.” Kevin Drum notes: “Reagan did the same thing, didn’t he? These guys are so terrified of having their picture taken in the actual presence of people they supposedly support that they extend their vacations in order to generate some marginally plausible excuse for not showing up in person.”

Floozy Patch?
Is that what they are calling it these days?
Firedoglake suggests that Congress focus on more important things that obsessing over what women do in bedrooms, which leads to Digby declaring, "I have a feeling that this anti-birth control and brood-mare-for-Jesus thing isn't going to catch fire."
Pandagon discusses Bachelor Girl by Betsy Israel:
"I have to say that the most amusing part of the book for me was reading how the scare-mongering tactics aimed at single women never seem to change from one generation to the next. Regardless of any random generation of single women felt about their status, the endless drumbeat at them was the same: If you don’t get married young, no one will love you and you’ll be sorry one day when your womb rots out and your teeth fall out. The best parts were the parts where barely concealed racial anxieties reared their heads. It’s clear what the message of the drumbeat says about the role of women in the white American patriarchy, which is to be the incubators of the oh-so-important heirs of white men and to be subservient and to be, above all, grateful for the chance."
