Nailed.

Steve Benen of the Washington Monthly:
"...the basics of modern Republican economic thought are, quite literally, always wrong. It’s not a matter of ideological or philosophical differences — these questions have been put to the test, repeatedly for decades, and the tenets of conservative economic policy have an unyielding track record of failure."

... And Mr. Obama seems determined to follow every last precept of GOPconomics... no matter what the consequences. Stella says Obama is a closet Republican. I disagree... only with the "closet" part: he takes not the least bit of trouble to conceal his devotion to the repeatedly failed economic thinking of the right. Absent an about-face more or less immediately, I shall not vote for him in 2012... after all, for many years I've had a firm commitment never to vote for a Republican.

We've been so badly shoved to the right that any present day Democratic politician is unrecognizable to true liberals of say 50 years ago.

That said, Obama is as centrist as he said he would be, which means he's Republican-Lite.

Really? He's pretty clearly to the right of Dwight D. Eisenhower, and I'd say he even would have given Barry Goldwater a run for his money.

And when it comes to civil liberties violations... torture, warrantless wiretapping, issuing executive orders for assassination of American citizens, etc. ... Obama has no equal among presidents, and that includes the atrocious George W. Bush. Don't try to tell me Obama said anything about those in his campaign! At this point, it would take a miracle to get me to vote for him.

[CAPTCHA text: "drato" ... milder than what I would have said.]

I hear you, Steve. I think I've said this before but my husband agrees with everything you say. I keep on thinking there's got to be a pony somewhere....

Yeah, ellroon, but it's probably been tortured...
