Napoleon was right.

"When a government is dependent upon bankers for money, they and not the leaders of the government control the situation, since the hand that gives is above the hand that takes. Money has no motherland; financiers are without patriotism and without decency; their sole object is gain." Napoleon Bonaparte, Emperor of France.

That Vimeo video worked almost flawlessly... go figure.

Google still doesn't want to make Blogger comments easy for old people with ancient eyes: the "hard" word (the one that is faint on a dark background) has extended to three digits now. Google must truly hate old people.

Re: voting, I read that Brennan Center report a week or two ago, and it is almost indisputable that some states are engaged in a systematic effort to prevent the old, the young, and people of color from voting. I cannot see how this is going to be resolved peaceably in the long run, or possibly even the short run... I know I wouldn't tolerate it if my voting rights were summarily wrested from my grasp. I suppose we'll soon have battle-equipped police forces at polling places to handle the (understandably) disruptive.

I can't wait to see police complaining about being assaulted with a walker or threatened with a crochet hook or worse yet, being called names by those who lived through the sixties.....

I shouldn't joke though, it may come to this. We who have seen government respond in good ways to its citizens will need to tell those who despair that reform can happen, that real change can occur. Those in government just need to be reminded of our common history.
