Der Spiegel:
"One key recommendation of the Iraq Study Group's report was that the US look to Syria and Iran to help quell the violence in Iraq. However, Condoleezza Rice has rejected the proposal, saying the price that these regimes may want in return could be too high.
The Iraq Study Group may have recommended in its keenly-anticipated report that the US engage in dialogue with Iran and Syria to try to stabilize Iraq, but it appears the White House is not willing to swallow this bitter pill. US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has rejected the bipartisan panel's advice, saying that the two countries could demand too high a price for any help over Iraq."

The price for an American soldier? Zero. Use'em up before they come home and cost money with the expected veteran's benefits and hospitalization...
I have even heard the statement from a friend: well, they volunteered, as if that meant the soldiers' lives have no value and could be misused and abused at the White House's whim.
And now Bush is contemplating the mighty manly 'Push Back' or whatever it's called, putting 30,000 more soldiers in harms way to do nothing of value for no real reason but Bush's ego.
