Remember all those stories of voting fraud?

Via Crooks and Liars, the People for the American Way:

"Right-wing members of Congress and state legislators have been passing onerous laws that make it harder for citizens to vote. Despite erecting barriers to the ballot box and disenfranchising voters, they've claimed these laws are necessary to stop rampant voter fraud.

Thanks to a press leak, it is now public that the US Elections Assistance Commission (EAC) commissioned a report to find out about voter fraud. According to USA Today, the EAC's report shows that there is no evidence that significant numbers of voters are lying about their identity at the polls, voting twice, or voting in the name of dead people. Let me repeat that: NO EVIDENCE."

Demand they release the report.

So? What has happened since 2000? I just interviewed Stephen Freeman, author of Was the 2004 Presidential Election Stolen? Well it appears that there is overwhelming evidence that the election was stolen. Election wasn’t stolen any one matter but instead in multiple different manners. This occurred not just in one state, Ohio, but several states. How many votes? Maybe as many as 9 million votes were stolen. If this is true, what have we done to improve the system since 2004? Really, what major changes have been put in place since the year 2000?

Fixing our election system should be a major party of progressive websites like DailyKos, FireDogLake, Think Progress, Huffington Post and Crooks and Liars. If we don’t fix the crooked system then what’s the point of all this discussion? What’s the point in making campaign contributions and stuffing envelopes for your favorite candidate? If the election is going to be stolen, what’s the point?

I am constantly amazed at the inability to get people to focus on this problem. It's as if no one has ever complained about Diebold or odd events during elections on the electronic machines. Diebold just goes ahead making the machines, and Republicans just keep on sending them to polling places.

Black Box Voting: http://www.blackboxvoting.org/ has been keeping track. Just google Diebold and fraud and see what you get!

Thanks for pushing this though. You are right. If our votes don't count, nothing else matters.
