A Canadian viewpoint of Donald Trump
Via Bryan of Why Now? a wonderful take on the Republican Golem:
The paternal, indulgent smile usually worn by the barbered and tanned Republican establishment is gone.
In its place is whey-faced fear. The primary-season freakshow that once served the party's interests so nicely now threatens to consume it.
Mainstream Republicans (admittedly a relative term nowadays) have lost control to a reality show star, a vulgar braggart who somehow manages to evince populism while flaunting extreme wealth and his membership in the .0001 per cent club.
Donald Trump transcends the freakshow, he's the whole carnival in one man, and taking the car keys away from him isn't going to be easy, if it can be done at all.
It wasn't supposed to work this way. The freakshow is meant to entertain and pacify the Don't-Tread-On-Me Tea Party bunch during the endless American primary season.
The idea is to promise unattainable far-right goals until the actual campaign starts, when the adults step in and make the compromises inevitably necessary to attain national power.

From Cats to Jellyfish to Chickens
Friday cat blogging on Sunday.
A wonderful perspective on religion and God from a religious man.
Sexy avatars in games affect players in the real world.
I may not want to eat anything ever again.... besides... we're all gonna die anyway.
Invasion by jellyfish the world over... could it possibly be because the oceans are warming? If not death by jellyfish, how about being choked to death by weeds?
Can you spell hypocrite?
A sensible horror film.
Elizabeth Smart is just that. Googling women and a verb.
Republicans went crazy in stages. Tea party logic. Lies told in Texan charter schools.
Changing oceans.
How historically correct is 12 Years a Slave?
One way to deal with the homeless.
Infected chickens sold by Foster Farms were not recalled.

Celebrating the Era of Stupid
Those elected to govern who don't know how and 13 reasons Washington is failing.
Justice Antonin Scalia.
CEOs and Wall Street figuring out how to loot pensions.
Watch out, California!
In the end, they will bring out their killer robots. Then they will destroy the earth. (Sorry. Getting silly)
And those who fight it:
Bernie Sanders vs. the Koch Brothers.
Paul Krugman.
And the world sits back and is amused by our antics.

From Cops to Corn Syrup
Why cops don't often believe a rape victim.
The Republicans self-made straitjacket.
Rep. Issa is sad. Aww.
The world's vegetation.
Moving into a new neighborhood?
Male/Female is no longer a binary selection....

Asteroid 1998 QE2 and its moon sailed within 3.6 million miles (5.8 million kilometers) of Earth on May 31, making their closest approach to our planet for at least the next two centuries. New radar images captured by the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico are revealing just how unique this binary asteroid is, researchers say.
“Asteroid QE2 is dark, red, and primitive — that is, it hasn’t been heated or melted as much as other asteroids," Arecibo's Ellen Howell said in a statement. "QE2 is nothing like any asteroid we've visited with a spacecraft, or plan to, or that we have meteorites from. It's an entirely new beast in the menagerie of asteroids near Earth."And NASA finds “unprecedented” black hole cluster near Andromeda’s central bulge. Sounds faintly pregnant?
