The reason why the Republicans are afraid of Gitmo prisoners...

Is because we'll finally find out that most of 'the worst of the worst' detainees have been a bunch of Afghani farmers, foot soldiers of the Taliban, or confused impressionable teenagers along with a few hardened criminals.

We'll find out these scary terrorists are nothing to be afraid of and that all this time... for eight long years... the real terrorists were in the White House.

Bryan of Why Now? explains the US prison system to those poor terrified Republicans.

Most dangerous and evil criminals!

But now we are trying to empty Gitmo....
Nowak, an Austrian, said he understood the widespread unwillingness of European countries to take in Guantanamo detainees since for years the United States had branded them as some of "the most dangerous criminals ever."

But he said a closer look at the prisoners would show that many of them were innocent and not dangerous. Most could be legally eligible for restitution payments, Nowak added.

Britain said last week the United States would need help from allies to close down the Guantanamo Bay prison camp but refused to say if it would agree to resettle inmates with no links to Britain.

Portugal wrote to its European Union partners in December urging them to resettle Guantanamo detainees.
C'mon, you guys! We already drove most of these innocent enemy combatants insane, they won't be able to tell anybody anything!

How much will he get for his tell-all book?

Australian David Hicks, “the first person convicted at an American war crimes trial since World War II was freed from prison on Saturday, after completing his U.S. imposed sentence.” Hicks spent five years in detention at Guantanamo Bay, followed by a nine month sentence in prison. “He was told to remain silent about any alleged abuse he suffered while in custody.”
Or else, what?

Musharraf can't win

No matter what he does now.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was taken into custody Monday soon after his return from exile to Pakistan where he plans to lead a campaign against the U.S.-allied military ruler who ousted him eight years ago, intelligence officials said.

It was not immediately clear on what charges Sharif had been detained. Two intelligence officials, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media, only confirmed that Sharif was being detained inside the Islamabad airport building.

Pakistan's Geo TV network also reported Sharif's detention, but there was no confirmation from the government.

Pakistan will ignite if anything bad happens to Sharif, and Musharraf can't have him in Pakistan destabilizing his very shaky hold on the government.

It will not take much to ignite this powder keg.

Update: Sharif is whisked out of the country, Musharraf plans to bring in Bhutto.
