From WWI to Keith....

WWI mines and miners and the battle that cost them their lives.
Archaeologists are beginning the most detailed ever study of a Western Front battlefield, an untouched site where 28 British tunnellers lie entombed after dying during brutal underground warfare. For WWI historians, it's the "holy grail".

When military historian Jeremy Banning stepped on to a patch of rough scrubland in northern France four months ago, the hairs on the back of his neck stood up.

The privately owned land in the sleepy rural village of La Boisselle had been practically untouched since fighting ceased in 1918, remaining one of the most poignant sites of the Battle of the Somme.

In his hand was a selection of grainy photographs of some of the British tunnellers killed in bloody subterranean battles there, and who lay permanently entombed directly under his feet.

We're going to really miss Bill Moyers

Watch his latest interview:
As President Obama makes the case for strong financial reform, Bill Moyers sits down with veteran regulator William K. Black, who says Wall Street is already been breaking current rules.

I told you not to name him Flauntleroy...

And now we can see why...

Shippensburg, PA (AHN) - Economists at Shippensburg University have linked unusual first names with male juvenile delinquency.

Fisticuffs and other troubled youth behavior are often the result of being given an unpopular name, especially if they come from a disadvantaged home environment and low economic strata.

[snip]

The names the study compared with their Popularity Name Indices were: Matthew - 76, Christopher - 64, Ryan - 49, Brian - 30, Richard - 20, Charles - 16, Luke - 5, Walter - 2 and Garland - 0.06.

Is that why the police so often give us the criminal's three names: Buford Earl Dimwattson, so we can make sure not to use those names?

There is no reset button, no do over, no ability to change

What the telecoms did. They assisted a rogue administration break the law to spy on Americans. It was illegal. There should be consequences. If there are no consequences, why do we have laws?

And why should people go to jail for breaking these laws but corporations and administrations don't?

Rapists rape people.

It does not matter nor do they care what the victim was wearing at the time.

Update 12/18: No consent. There is nothing gray about it. No consent means rape.
Rape needs to be called rape. Not gray rape. Not date rape. Not "a disagreement between two lovers over whether there was consent on one particular occasion." There's really no need for anything fancier when it simply describes after all, in every situation, a terrible act for which there was no consent.

Libby is NOT the first Bush administration official convicted

Media Matters shows us the list and why they were convicted. They are: Lester Crawford, Brian J. Doyle, Claude A. Allen, David H. Safavian, and John T. Korsmo. Libby shouldn't feel so alone....
