Christmas is coming

My house is a wreck but at least we have the tree up.  Although it IS leaning a bit to the left....

Why is it that my kids' finals and helping research for internships means a pile of files being searched for transcripts and heaps of papers fluttering about while stepping over stacks of books and trying to get Christmas lists filled means finally giving cash to family members instead of trying to make sense of their Amazon wish lists while laundry heaps twitchily become sentient and move slowly towards the door.

At least I got the dishes done.  I couldn't see the faucet.

methinks you have your santa-cam perched over me shoulder. No finals but still living out-of-boxes due to the move.

Ah! You have moved more times than I ever have. Hope the new place treats you well and you can settle comfortably!

Hang in there, ellroon. Nothing that leans to the left can be all bad...

Three of us in my circle regularly exchange gifts, all of us single, old and childless. Several Christmases recently one friend asked Stella and me to give her a charitable donation; I know her well enough to know she really meant it, and last year and this year that's what we actually did... last year we gave her the Houston Food Bank; this year, it's Doctors Without Borders. Stella and I have (for the most part) reduced the flow of material goods to one present each direction, usually a book; this year, my dear mate, literally a prizewinning poet herself, is receiving a book of Mary Oliver's work.

I don't know why we didn't get to this point before age sixty-something; it's truly a manifestation of sanity. Better late than never, I suppose.

I've amassed... truly amassed... great piles of stuff to the point I need to have a garage sale. I can't just throw usable things out. So that's the next thing on the docket. Clean out all the stuff!!

Something we did do about 10 years or so ago for Christmas, we don't give gifts to adults, but to the kids.

I kinda miss presents, but I just go and get what I need when I need it. I am very appreciative and lucky to not need much. (Besides, there are all these neat things at garage sales!)
