That statement reminds me of a similar one about the death penalty: states without the death penalty consistently have lower violent crime rates (including murder) than adjacent states of similar demographics with the death penalty. But don't expect to make any headway with legislation based on either of those facts...

Thanks. I had no idea about the non-death penalty states having a lower crime rate.

What I like is that the crime rate has been falling for several years now. Suggestions have been because of removal of lead from the environment and the availability of abortions. And the Republicans would like to allow more lead and less abortions.....

and let more insane people have access to guns. Sounds like a win win situation.

Bryan always says that the violent crime rate is reliably proportional to the number in society of males 15-25 (?) years old. Once the boomers' children passed that age group, the number dropped, and crime dropped with it. Maybe so; correlation is not causality...
