Too bad Falwell isn't here to tell us what sin was responsible

For Hawaii's incoming troubles:

HONOLULU — Hurricane Flossie was downgraded to a Category 2 hurricane Tuesday but stayed on course to brush the Big Island, where schools were closed and residents were urged to stock up on food and water.

As if the storm wasn't enough, an 5.3 magnitude earthquake jolted the Big Island of Hawaii during the night.

The eye of the storm had maximum sustained wind of 110 mph, hurricane specialists noted in downgrading the storm from the earlier Category 3. It was expected to pass less than 100 miles from the islands, lashing the shores with strong wind and up to 10 inches of rain, meteorologists said.

The National Weather Service placed the Big Island under a hurricane watch and a tropical storm warning. A flash flood watch was also issued for the island through Wednesday.
Or the U.S' incoming hurricane season...

Oh well... where ever he is now, I'm sure he's having a ... blast.

T.S. Dean, Invest 91I, Hurricane Flossie... I'd say the season is well underway. I'm surprised the shade of Rev. Falwell didn't reappear to pray (that's "pray (v.t.)") Invest-91I further up the coast to the sinful city of Houston, which pretty consistently votes Democratic and has at least a half dozen UU congregations and churches in the area. Maybe he thinks Mexicans and border Texans deserve it more; Jerry never did think much of Catholics...

Oops. I think that's "91L" rather than "91I". If I could read AND type, I'd be dangerous.

No, you were right the first time: http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/tracking/at200791_model.html

What a weird name. Does anyone know why?

Answered my own question:
When a National Hurricane Center forecaster sees a tropical disturbance that may be a threat to develop into a tropical depression, the forecaster may label the disturbance an "Invest" and give it a tracking identification number. There is no formal definition of what qualifies as an "Invest". Declaring an "Invest" is merely done so that a set of forecasting aids like computer model track forecasts can be generated for the disturbance. The "Invest" is given a number 90-99, followed by a single letter corresponding to the ocean basin--"L" for the Atlantic, or "E" for the Eastern Pacific. Other warning agencies assign "Invests" for the other ocean basins--"W" for the Western Pacific, "A" for the Arabian Sea, etc.

And here your correction is right: Invest 90L...
