At a conference on the shores of the Bay of Bengal I happened to have a long talk with a former general who while on active service ran an army engaged in conflict with a major Muslim nation. His comment about the "surge" was this: "You never reinforce a losing situation."

"You never reinforce a losing situation." I would guess this pearl of wisdom predates most anything else we've heard. It's been a long time (never) since I read Sun Tzu's "Art of War".
If war is indeed an art I would say ol' Georgie is the equivalent of an elephant with a paint brush, but not as talented.
Oh, let's not insult elephants, now! (And I remember reading they do have an artistic sense.)
Even though elephants are the icon of the Republican party, I think Georgie is made of the stuff the elephant leaves behind.
