Why would the Republicans freak out when Boxer mentioned Condi's lack of immediate family?

The Republicans freak out when you get too close to the truth... So... Is she gay?. Or are there babies in her past?

For example, when people questioned Bush's intelligence at the beginning of his term (pre-9/11), the conservatives flipped out (remember when the Canadian press secretary mentioned that Bush was a bit of a dodo?).
