How to answer questions without saying anything.

Steve Bates notes the overuse of the phrase "I'm really not in a postion to...." in the transcript at TPM Muckraker by two senior Justice Department officials. They "participated in a phone briefing with reporters about the president's wiretapping program."

They proceeded to say a great deal of nothing, shutting off the questions by indicating they weren't in any position to comment. So if they aren't in a position to comment, who the hell is?
