Thanks for the Stanford geneticist article. I see my doc in the morning for a routine check; he's going to hear about that one.

Wow. Soraya Chemaly hits the nail... and some ignorant, arrogant, hostile men... on the head! I'll post about that late tomorrow, crediting you, of course.

Hope the doc is a good one, Steve, and actually listens. Good luck on the checkup!

It took me several attempts to read Chemaly's article in its entirety. I am aghast we are having this 'conversation' so many decades after it was settled. Or so I thought... there's a lot of benighted people out there.

ellroon, the core of the problem can be expressed in three words: freedom of religion.

When the U.S. proclaimed almost unfettered freedom of the individual conscience to believe any damned thing, given that a lot of people in Europe did, in fact, believe any damned thing (e.g., the inferiority of women), Europe jumped at the opportunity and exported the worst of its wacko nutcases to America. Their descendants are here today, and they don't give a good God-damn (word chosen advisedly) about the Constitution as it extends rights to people of OTHER faiths (or no faith at all). The necessity of symmetry for such a system to work simply never occurs to them: they, b'Gawd, are right, and that settles it.

Send them back to their ancestral home, I say, and let THEM deal with them for a while!

Never thought it's American DNA that has created all these morons.... I guess we can just hope those who are intelligent and educated will wipe them out in the incoming zombie apocalypse....

(Never quite sure when to use that and when to use which...)

"when to use that and when to use which..."

Me either. Occasionally someone publishes a rule... but it's not always the same rule.

I'd settle for people's getting "who" vs. "whom" right!

To whom would you employ the word which and to whom would you use that?

Then there's fewer and lesser...
